Thank you for your insightful comparison. It is indeed the edge of chaos when you think about exactly what is at stake for our country. The discipline it takes to look at the problems and speak about them, not get dragged into the mud and the fear, but to remain intelligent, disciplined and strong. “The Wanderer Above the Mists” by Caspar David Friedrich is immediately what came to my mind.

Artistic experiences and practise can be of great value in business and politics. You have given quite a few examples in this series. However there is a big difference in politics and arts in my opinion. John Cage could always return to the edge of chaos by just throwing away those errors and nobody would notice,we see only the finished piece. In politics you have mostly only one try in the public and then it´s done.

Obama seems to be aware of that danger and he avoided to get close to the edge at all. He does not want to go there. So I would not expect too much from him, he simply didn´t mess up his campaign that´s all.

Yes, art is rarefied; that’s why it can get to such a high level. I think politics is more like life, in that mistakes are visible right away to anyone paying attention, but it’s usually not impossible to recover from them. The skill level in either politics or art is very high in people who reach the top. I have high hopes for Obama. Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment. KB
